Catania, sicily
Catania is a beautiful city known for its charm, warmth, cultural heritage and magic views, an ideal spot for all year round vacations.
Catania is located at the center of the eastern coast of Sicily, a 30-40 min drive to the famous ancient cities of Taormina and Siracusa and to the Mount Etna volcano, and a two hour
drive to the capital of the island, Palermo, and the fascinating Agrigento. Visitors will find frequent connections by bus and
train to most of the major cities of Sicily .
The city is full of interesting places to visit: from the typical baroque architecture found in the city center to the green alleys of the Villa Bellini and the never-ending "movida" hanging out
by the Massimo Bellini Theatre public square.
The Etna and the sea.
Mount Etna, the tallest active volcano in Europe, often shows its majestic beauty with spectacular eruptions, and can always be viewed above the roofs of Etnea Street.
From the north to the south of Catania one can easily reach charming black-sand beaches naturally created by lava stone as well as soft white sand beaches, the “playa”.
Catania is also place to taste.
You can't miss the sweet "cannoli", the famous "arancini", the “pasta alla norma”, the fresh fish or the grilled horse meat.
The fish market is a typical place to visit, characteristic for its colorful folclore. This is indeed a place that has been left untouched by time, where fishermen sell fresh fish using the same
methods as their forefathers.
There is still a lot more to discover in this warm, southern Italian city: things, places and people you will never forget.
